I recently had an interview

To be considered for the post of Poet Laureate

For the city that I live in

I won’t know the results for a week or so

As The Committee needs time to deliberate

I won’t likely get it though

My wife warned me not to ramble on

I knew better but I could not help it

I rambled on, and waved my hands in the air

Circuitous points

That did not always make it back around

To their point of origin

But I was, at least, sincere

And I told them truths

One of which I will share with you now

If I am appointed to the post of Poet Laureate

The first thing I shall do is to purchase

A Laurus nobilis (a sweet bay laurel)

From an online horticultural site

Hopefully, it shall grow rapidly under my care

That I may eventually cut sprigs from it

And fashion them into true wreaths

For the winners of the contests I shall hold

An ancient crowning

Of warriors and poets

A return

To the time sheets of old
